Pet Basheerabad Police on Tuesday arrested the man who threw acid on a 23-year-old a day before after the latter reject his proposal.

The man, Pradeeep Challa, a private employee, was in pursuit of Kadeera Begum of Dattetreya Nagar near Qutubullahpur for more than six months. Challa and Begum were colleagues earlier but the latter changed jobs to evade her attacker’s advances. The accused however did not give up and found a job at an organisation located close to Begum’s new work place, about two months. When she repeatedly rejected his proposal, he hatched a plan to maim and kill her.

Threatens to kill himself

Accordingly, he picked a bottle of acid used in the electrical industry where he works with an intention to use it on Begum. On Tuesday, he called the victim and asked her to come out of her house for a discussion. When the victim did not agree to his request, he threatened he would kill himself if she did not meet him.

When Begum agreed and came out to talk to him, Challa again professed his love to her, which she rejected. “As she was walking away after rejecting his proposal, Pradeep attacked her with acid,” said a Pet Basheerabad Police officer. “She suffered 25 percent burns. Her damage is yet to be assessed.”

Police launched a manhunt for Challa and found him holed in his room. Various cases under sections IPC. If convicted, he could spend up to 10 years in prison.
