He was trying to stop illegal sand mining
Ramdurg taluk Tahsildar R.V. Katti, suffered injuries on his hand when a tractor allegedly carrying illegally mined sand hit his jeep in Hulagoppa village on Monday night.
Revenue officials said the Tahsildar had been tipped off about illegal sand mining and he rushed to the spot to try and stop it. When the alleged smugglers saw the officer’s vehicle approaching the site, they turned around and tried to run over the jeep with their tractor. Mr Katti has complained to the Ramdurg police station.
Deputy Commissioner N. Jayaram told The Hindu that strict action will be taken against illegal sand mining. Those responsible for attacks on officials will face legal action, he said.
