Haryana Finance Minister Capt Abhimanyu said today that a panel formed to examine raising the retirement age of state employees from 58 to 60 years has felt that it is not necessary to raise it for all departments.
Capt Abhimanyu, who heads the sub-committee, said it would soon submit its report to chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar.
Abhimanyu, who was interacting with mediapersons after ameeting of the panel here today, said that information would be collected on those departments where work would suffer after the retirement of people or where there is no officer available through promotion.
This information would be presented before the cabinet, he said.
"This will help in deciding if the retirement age should be raised for a particular post or in a particular department or not. The sub-committee will also suggest the tenure of heads of department," Abhimanyu added.
The panel was constituted on February 3 to study the possibility of increasing the retirement age of government employees to 60 years from 58.
Other members in the committee include health minister Anil Vij and social justice and empowerment minister Krishan Kumar Bedi.
In November 2014, the BJP government in the state had withdrawn a notification that increasing the retirement age from 58 years to 60.
The notification had been issued by the earlier Bhupinder Singh Hooda-led Congress regime in Haryana.
The present government had reasoned that increase in the retirement age would affect the career prospects of those unemployed in Haryana.
However later, bowing to the pressure of employee unions, the government was forced to look into the issue of increasing the retirement age. Currently, there are 2.74 lakh government employees in Haryana, out of which 15,000 retire every year.
