Says demand is growing in small cities

Nikon India, 100% subsidiary of Nikon Corporation, says India is a huge market for them and the growth mainly in tier-2 and 3 cities and towns is quite encouraging.

The leaders in imaging technology, which has completed a milestone of 10-year presence in India, says it is no more restricted to big cities and the DSLR user number is slowly growing in other areas.

The firm is expecting to clock a turnover of ₹1,200 crore in India during the current fiscal.

Nikon India Managing Director Kazuo Ninomiya, who was here to inaugurate the Nikon’s First Experience Zone, the first in the city, 132nd in India and fourth in Andhra Pradesh told The Hindu on Monday that they had emerged as leaders in compact cameras for the past three years and DSLR since 2009.

“India is a very promising market. There are about one billion smartphone users and the popularity of social media is leading to selfie culture. On the whole though it may dent the marketing a little bit, many are preferring to learn advance photography using DSLR,” he said.

He said they were accounting for 50% in point and shoot and 55% in DSLR segment in India. On Nikon’s First Experience Zone in Vizag, he said it would bring world-class products to the convenience of customers. The experience zone was earlier inaugurated by Mr. Ninomiya in the presence of Sajjan Kumar, Senior Vice President-Corporate Sales and Strategy.

“We have conducted over 1,000 workshops on teaching basic outdoor photography, photowalks, wedding, advance, wildlife and nature photography,” he said. More than 25,000 have attended workshops so far.
