Collectorate march today ahead of talks to be led by CM

Nurses from Kasaragod will participate in a Collectorate march organised by the Indian Nurses Association (INA) in Kannur on Wednesday.

As many as 300 INA members from 12 private hospitals in the district will join the rally scheduled to begin at 10 a.m., INA district joint secretary Prince Mathew told The Hindu on Tuesday.

The march comes a day ahead of the talks chaired by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan in Thiruvananthapuram. The United Nurses Association had deferred its agitation in view of the talks. The eight-day agitation by the INA had hit the functioning of 12 private hospitals in the district. There is a 70% drop in inpatient admissions, he said, adding that many had to depend on government and private hospitals not impacted by the strike.

Support

Meanwhile, youth wings of many political organisations have decided to extend their solidarity with the agitating nurses, seeking an upward revision of their pay structure, among other demands.

Conciliatory talks chaired by Collector K. Jeevanbabu with the representatives of the nurses on Monday failed to yield results. The nurses resolved to continue their agitation notwithstanding the July 20 talks convened by the Chief Minister.
