Avinashilingam University and Sri Krishna Sweets have entered into an agreement to promote traditional, devotional music. A release from the University, issued here on Monday, said the ‘Chinnachiru Kuyilgal’ programme was for students of Classes I - IX to help them learn devotional, traditional music.
Traditionally, families taught children music and encouraged them to sing mornings and evenings - an exercise that “purified their soul and improved breathing as the air generated from the bottom of the abdomen spread through the heart, throat and head.”
The expected outcome of running the programme was to improve the mental strength of children, preserve and promote culture and heritage, encourage children to perform on stages and gain knowledge of traditional arts.
The Department of Music, Avinashilingam University, would advertise in the media to encourage boys and girls to apply, select students and train them a variety of songs. The programme was free and would run for 100 hours divided into 50 weeks of two hours each on Sundays (between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m.).
If at the end of the programme, the students had a minimum of 80 % attendance, the Department would issue certificates.
The release also said that those interested may download the application form from www.srikrishnasweets.net.
