In Premnagar Colony, it’s an ordeal by bad road

Despite the attention and necessary sanctions to repair it, an important stretch of road in Khairatabad lies neglected. A year back, the road at Premnagar which connects the arch at the Sai Baba temple, was dug up for laying electric cables. What remained over the 200- metre stretch after the work was done was potholes, water logging points and damaged road surface. The local residents complain that commuters face a lot of inconvenience whenever they chose to travel on the route. “The road is not motorable at all,” said D. Satyanarayana, a retired employee of a private company who has been pursuing the issue. “I have requested the authorities and also the Corporator to repair it as soon as possible. Another challenge is the garbage dump nearby which adds to the inconvenience of the commuters.” The commuters also complain that apart from damage to the vehicles, it also affected their health.

“I had severe back pain when I ended up riding over a pothole,” said L Krishna, a trader and a local resident. “Since it is monsoon, the visibility during rains is very low. The GHMC should take up the work on priority basis as this is a small stretch.”

Responding to the complains of the locals, the GHMC sanctioned works to re-carpet the road a few months ago.

“There was a demand to even remove a water-logging point. So we will call for tenders to repair the entire stretch and not just at the places where the road was dug up. The sanctioned work will begin in a few days,” said Chenna Reddy, Executive Engineer, Central Zone.
