Parliament on Monday was adjourned for the day after obituary reference to deceased members and strongly condemning the “cowardly and senseless” terror attack on Amarnath pilgrims.

Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan and Rajya Sabha Chairman Hamid Ansari described the terror strike last Monday that killed eight pilgrims as “cowardly” and wanted strong action against terrorists.

Before the Lok Sabha started proceedings, Prime Minister Narendra Modi went to the Opposition benches and greeted leaders like Congress chief Sonia Gandhi, Samajwadi Party’s Mulayam Singh Yadav and National Conference’s Farooq Abdullah.

While Modi was seen talking to Congress floor leader Mallikarjun Kharge, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj engaged Sonia in a long chat. Mourning the Amarnath victims, Ansari said, “No words are strong enough to condemn this inhuman, barbaric and heinous act. The yatra, which symbolizes peace and harmony, is, however, continuing and the resilient attitude of the people in the face of such adversity is to be appreciated.”

Condemning the “cowardly and senseless” act, he said, “let us reiterate our firm resolve to fight terrorism with determination”.
