A nine-year-old girl and an army jawan were killed in ceasefire violations by Pakistan along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir on Monday. At least two other civilians were critically injured in the ceasefire violation in Rajouri’s Manjakote sector. While the girl, identified as Saida of Balakote, was killed in Poonch, the army jawan was killed in Rajouri district. “Two civilians have been seriously injured. Schools are closed for an indefinite period of time and evacuation will be done once there is break in firing,” DDC Rajouri told news agency ANI.
Army jawan Mudasir Ahmad, 37, from Tral was hit when mortar shells landed in his bunker earlier this morning. The army said in a statement that the “brave and sincere” was a father of two and “loved his job to the core” reported NDTV.
Pakistan resorted to ceasefire violations along the LoC in Poonch’s Balakote and Rajouri’s Manjakote and Bhimber Gali sector in Jammu and Kashmir. The Indian Army is strongly retaliating to heavy shelling and firing.
IANS quoted Defence Ministry spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Manish Mehta as saying: “Pakistan, initiating the attack, resorted to the unprovoked targeting of the Indian positions on the LoC in Bhimber Gali sector of Jammu and Kashmir. The indiscriminate firing using small arms, automatics and mortars that started from 7.30 a.m. is still on.”
Meanwhile, the Directors General of Military Operation of India and Pakistan held talks over the repeated exchange of fire along the LoC in Jammu and Kashmir. The Indian DGMO pointed out that all the ceasefire violations were being initiated by the Pakistan Army, an army statement said. The Indian Army also emphasised on the “trend of infiltration along the LoC continued with the active support of Pakistan forward posts.” On Saturday, an Indian Army jawan was killed in cross-border firing across the LoC by Pakistani Army in Rajouri sector.
