Mangalore University to organise inter-college competitions next month

Winners will represent the university in South Zone Inter University Youth Festival, 2017

The inter-collegiate competitions of Mangalore University to select students for the South Zone Inter University Youth Festival, 2017, will commence from next month.

The youth festival is usually conducted in October-November, according to Barkuru Udaya, director, Directorate of Student Welfare of the university.

Addressing presspersons here on Monday, he said that the competitions in five categories would commence from August 17 and end on August 31. They would be conducted in five colleges on given dates.

The literary competitions would be conducted on August 17 at Rosario College, Pandeshwar in Mangaluru. It would be followed by fine arts competitions at Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheswara College in Ujire.

The music competitions would be held at St. Philomena College in Puttur on August 22 and 23. The theatre competitions would be conducted at Bhuvanendra College in Karkala. The dance competitions would be arranged at Alva’s College in Moodbidri on August 30 and 31.

He said that both undergraduate and postgraduate students in colleges and in the university campus could participate. The jurisdiction of the university was spread over Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Kodagu, with about 220 colleges and more than one lakh students.

The students who would win first and second places in five categories would represent the university in the youth festival, he said.
