Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav, who is in the eye of the storm ever since the CBI raided Lalu-Rabri residence in Patna on July 7 in connection with the land-for-hotels scam, on Monday said that the issue of his resignation was only "a media creation."

Breaking his silence, Lalu’s younger son said this when he came to the Bihar Assembly premises here to participate in voting for the presidential election. He also blasted senior BJP leader Sushil Modi for indulging in ‘negative politics’ and said, “Modi ji’s only job is to malign others.”

Tejashwi’s assertion comes a day after JD (U) secretary general KC Tyagi said that Nitish had not set any deadline for his resignation nor ever asked him to quit. “However, Tejashwi should clarify before the Chief Minister and end political uncertainty in the State,” said Tyagi in New Delhi on Monday.

Meanwhile, senior JD (U) leader and former Minister Ramai Ram, who last week was the first to say that “a four-day deadline has been earmarked for Tejashwi to quit”, on Monday took a U-turn and said, “I never talked about the deadline. All I had said was that Tejashwi should clarify his position to Nitish and clear the air.”

In the meantime, 241 MLAs out of total 243 members in the Bihar Assembly today cast their votes in the presidential polls. While the JD (U) has backed NDA candidate Ram Nath Kovind, the RJD and Congress members voted for Opposition nominee Meira Kumar. While one MLA BK Sinha voted in Dehradun (with the permission of the EC), the other BJP MLA Anand Bhushan Pandey could not vote due to serious illness.
