The Rajasthan Police have begun making arrests in connection with the violence that erupted in slain gangster Anandpal Singh’s village, a day before he was cremated.
Two Rajput leaders, Durg Singh Chauhan and Mahipal Singh Makrana, considered to have played a key role in inciting violece in Nagaur, were arrested.
Thousands of protesters beat police personnel, torched vehicles and vandalised public property. Rajput outfits in Nagaur staged a sit-in demanding a CBI inquiry into Singh’s encounter.
At least 30 police personnel and 14 civilians were injured in widespread clashes.
