With an aim to ensure smooth induction of students in the upcoming session, senior officials from Delhi University met officials from the Delhi Police, Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) and Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) on Friday.
Maintaining discipline and preventing ragging of students in the university were the primary agenda of the meeting. All students and hostel residents and their parents have been asked to give an undertaking regarding the same at the respective colleges.
A statement issued by the university read: “The colleges and departments have been requested to strictly enforce the rules issued from time to time, and especially the provisions of Ordinances XV-B, XV-C and the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013.”
Joint Control Rooms
The university has promised to set up two Joint Control Rooms, one each in North Campus and South Campus and also place police pickets outside every college, especially the ones meant only for women. The university said that strict measures, including police intervention, will be taken for any acts of indiscipline.
The Delhi Police have assured the university that women police in plain clothes will be deployed within the university and there will be an increase in patrolling in order to maintain strict vigilance on campus.
The university also said that strict measures will be taken against those defacing college walls and that Station House Officers will be authorised to take direct action against the violators. Sensitive graffiti and posters in the campus have been banned by the university.
Public transport
DU has also asked students to use public transport to reduce traffic congestion. The DMRC has been asked to make announcements in the metro regarding zero tolerance for ragging within the university. The university has declared that students caught ragging others will be suspended, expelled or their degrees cancelled.
Students can drop written complaints against ragging and inform the University Information Centre.
