‘Freedom from waste’ project to kick off on August 15

The first organisational meeting of the ‘Freedom from waste’ project as part of the State government’s Haritha Kerala Mission was held at the Family Welfare Centre at Thycaud on Sunday.

The project will officially begin with the State-level inauguration on August 15. The day-long workshop was held as a training programme for district coordinators and resource persons of the Haritha Keralam Mission and Suchitwa Mission regarding the execution of the project.

T.N. Seema, Haritha Keralam Mission Vice Chairperson, inaugurated the meeting and workshop. She said the ‘Freedom from waste’ project was not planned as a project that would function for a few days but as a continued programme until Kerala became completely free of waste.

Suchitwa Mission Executive Director K. Vasuki presented the introductory remarks on the project. She shared with the participants the steps that had to be taken to ensure the success of the project.

Later, at the workshop, sessions on the various aspects of the project were held. The importance of house visits for the success of the programme was stressed. After the presentations, the district coordinators and resource persons of the Haritha Keralam Mission and Suchitwa Mission were divided into groups and meetings were held.

District-level meetings will be held with Ministers in-charge of each district to formulate an action plan before the project launch. Ward-level sanitation committee meetings will be held till the last week of July.
