Tharoor, O'Brien take to social media to react to AIB controversy

While a section applauded the move and responded by uploading their pictures with the filter in solidarity, many pointed out that uploading your own photo is not the same as uploading that of someone else’s without their permission.

Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, Trinamool Congress' Derek O'Brien and actor-turned-politician Ramya on Saturday posted a photo on social media with a Snapchat filter, with a dog’s ears and nose.

This comes after a day of Mumbai police registering a FIR against All India Bakchod (AIB), a social media entertainment channel, for sharing a meme of Prime Minister Narendra Modi with the same filter.

Of course this had to go viral, with many reacting to the images on social media. While a section applauded the move and responded by uploading their pictures with the filter in solidarity, many pointed out that uploading your own photo is not the same as uploading that of someone else’s without their permission. Meanwhile, Cyber crime and cyber law experts on Saturday questioned the Mumbai Police’s decision to register an FIR against AIB and the sections invoked in the FIR. Read more
