Rajiv Mishra, associate professor (Hospitality and Tourism) at Welcomgroup Graduate School of Hotel Administration (WGSHA), Manipal University, Manipal has received an appreciation letter from Union Ministry of Tourism Director Bibhuti Bhushana Dash for his research paper.
Rajiv in his research paper – “A critical review on the recommendations and proposals of the Ministry of Tourism for the 12th Five Year Plan: Imperatives for Paradigm Shift in Human Resource Development and Capacity Building Initiatives in Hospitality and Tourism Sectors” – was critical of the silence with regard to distance learning in the 12th Five Year Plan of the Union Ministry of Tourism.
Rave reviews
The paper has received rave reviews by the officials of the department. It has also been approved for publication in the reputed “International Journal of Applied Business and Economic Research”, which is abstracted and indexed in SCOPUS, and is listed in UGC Approved Journals List 2017.
The paper addresses the need to reinvent role clarity in academics and also deliberates on the import of questions raised using ‘Report of the Working Group on Tourism’ for the 12th Five Year Plan by Ministry of Tourism’ from the perspective of Hospitality and Tourism Education.
Rajiv, quoting sources in his paper, said that the annual demand of hospitality workforce is likely to be almost nine lakh in 2022, according to the Market Pulse Report 2012 done at the behest of the Union Ministry of Tourism. At present, the 337 training institutes in India are producing only 63,000 students every year.
Rajiv is extremely happy to have received the letter from the Union Ministry of Tourism. “I received a number of phone calls from ministry officials lauding the paper for being a well-researched one”.
