Srikant Kamalapurkar's family.
Four members of a family were found hanging dead at their house in Saraswati Godown Layout in the city on Saturday night.
The deceased have been identified as Srikanth Kamalapurkar, 57, his wife Dhanushree, 50, and their children Chetan, 21 and Sakshi 16.
The family was residing in the rented house on the first floor of a building for around 17 years.
Srikanth, a double graduate, was a water diviner while Dhanushree worked as a supervisor in a shop in the city. Chetan was a BCom student while Sakshi was a Class X student.
Superintendent of Police N Shashi Kumar told media that while the bodies of father and children were found in hall, the mother’s body was found in the kitchen. “The exact reason for the family to take the extreme step is yet to be ascertained.”
Kumar said that neighbours grew suspicious after they found that milk packet had been left unattended.
They informed other relatives who rushed to spot and found the house locked from inside. They informed the police who broke open door to find the bodies on Saturday night.
SP said that the family must have committed suicide on Friday itself as the bodies had turned blue. The family has used one rope which they have cut into four pieces to hang themselves. Brahmapur police have registered a case.
