TDP for Nirbhaya case against MLA

more-in

Reiterating its demand for registration of cases under Nirbhaya Act against TRS Mahbubabad MLA Shankar Nayak for his alleged indecent behaviour against a civil servant, the Telugu Desam Party Telangana State unit has asked the State Government to take stringent action against ruling party legislators and leaders who misbehaved with the officials in the recent past.

A delegation of the TDP-TS representatives led by its working president A. Revanth Reddy met Chief Secretary S.P. Singh on Friday and submitted a memorandum seeking action on complaints of misbehaviour with the officials. They recalled that Mahbubabad Collector Preeti Meena had filed a complaint with the Chief Secretary and other senior officials about the behaviour of the TRS legislator six months ago, but action had not been initiated.

“Had the government acted in time, such incidents would not have occurred. The police on their part too were indifferent to the complaint lodged by the District Collector as was evident from the fact that the complaint was made in the afternoon and a case was registered towards midnight,” Mr. Revanth Reddy said. “When the police chose not to act on a complaint filed by a civil servant who is also the district magistrate, what kind of message is being sent to the people?” he asked.

He wanted the Government to extend its support to Ms. Meena by bearing the cost of legal charges, if need be. He recalled reports of similar incidents of misbehaviour involving a TRS MP and ruling party MLAs in the recent past and demanded that the government take action against them to instil confidence among the official machinery to freely discharge their duties.
