Municipal Administration Minister wants actor to come clean on taxes paid

Actor Kamal Haasan’s allegations of corruption against the AIADMK government have evoked strong reactions from ruling party leaders.

“If Kamal Haasan has grievances with the State government, he can either approach the court or join politics to voice his opinion,” M. Thambi Durai, Lok Sabha Deputy Speaker, told reporters here on Saturday.

Minister for Municipal Administration and Rural Development S.P. Velumani asked if the actor would publicly state the details of taxes he had paid.

He also asked whether Kamal Haasan had any evidence to prove his allegations. “Wasn’t Kamal in Tamil Nadu before?... It is just recently that he started making baseless allegations. Is he ready to prove [charges of corruption],” Mr. Velumani asked.

“One should not raise allegations without evidence and Kamal should stop blaming the government unnecessarily,” the Minister told reporters at Coimbatore Medical College Hospital.

At another event, Mr. Velumani warned of legal action against the actor if he continued to accuse the government without any evidence.
