Director General (Prisons) H.N. Satyanarayana Rao, along with senior officials, inspected the Central Prison at Parappana Agrahara on Saturday morning.

Hours after his inspection, Deputy Inspector General (Prisons) D. Roopa also visited the prison to take stock of the situation. Sources said she gathered some details after inquiring with the prison staff and verified some documents.

The visit by both officials comes ahead of the inspection by the special team headed by former IAS officer Vinay Kumar constituted by the state government to probe the irregularities mentioned in the report submitted by Ms. Roopa.

In her report, Ms. Roopa has accused senior officials, including Mr. Rao, of giving preferential treatment to AIADMK leader V.K. Sasikala and the multi-crore stamp paper racket kingpin Abdul Karim Telgi in the prison. Apart from submitting the report to Director General and Inspector General of Police (DG-IGP) R.K. Dutta, Ms. Roopa has also submitted copies to the Home Secretary and the Anti Corruption Bureau.

On Friday, Additional Inspector General (Prisons) Veerabhadra Swamy visited the central prison and inspected the barracks and cells where Sasikala and Telgi are housed.
