Eight former students come together to motivate students

Recently, an architect, two doctors and five engineers occupied the stage in a classroom filled with students of Jeevanandam Government Higher Secondary School (JGHSS).

It was the first session of Jeevanandam Alumni Motivation Meet (JAMM) and the professionals were the alumni of JGHSS from the batch of 1990-1992. On the 25th year of their passing out of school, the alumni decided to return the favour to the school that catapulted them to the position they are in now.

After deliberations with the JGHSS Vice-Principal Chandrasekaran, they initated the Jeevanandam Alumni Motivation Meet to interact with the current higher secondary school students and guide them to etch their mark in the fields they choose to pursue.

Addressing the students, Sivaraman Venkataraman, JGHSS Alumnus and an architect, said that though each one of the alumni present at the meet hailed from a humble background, the government school provided a strong foundation for them to focus and pursue their dreams.

“When we were thinking how to contribute to the school which changed our lives, Mr.Chandrasekaran suggested we guide the students towards a bright future and career development,” he said.

Career guidance

He added that they would hold four to five interactive meetings with the students this year to provide career guidance and help choose the right path.

“Your dreams and paths should be clear,” he told the students and added that the alumni including those working in Singapore, Malaysia, France and United States would join them in the subsequent meetings.

Another alumnus Hiran Somarathinam, who works as the Senior Section Engineer, Diesel Loco Shed, Southwestern Railways, Bengaluru, said that the students can ask any question and seek help from them. They would share their contacts as well.

Mr. Venkataraman, underlined that the session would restore confidence among the students through success stories of the alumni, give them an exposure on what it takes to develop a career in the trendy industries, enable them to pursue a career of their choice and guide them on developing skills.

Mr. Chandrasekaran said that hard work leads to success.
