District in-charge minister Ramesh Jarkiholi unveiled an Ambedkar statue in front of the Belagavi City Corporation on Wednesday.
He urged officers to follow the ideals set by the man who formulated the Constitution.
According to Shashidhar Kurer, corporation Commissioner, the 15-ft statue was the tallest one of the Ambedkar installed in South India.
He said that the statue was sculpted at a cost of ₹ 30 lakh. A podium has been constructed by spending ₹ 10 lakh. “We will build a replica of Indian Parliament near the statue at around ₹ 2 crore in the coming years,” Mr. Kurer said.
MP Suresh Angadi, MLA Firoz Sait, MLCs Vivek Rao Patil and Mahantesh Kavatagimath, MLA Satish Jarkiholi, Mayor Asha Aihole, Deputy Mayor Nagesh Mandolkar, National Safai Karamchari Commission member Jagadish Hiremani, Deputy Commissioner of Police Seema Latkar, corporation members and others were present.
