Life term for man who killed wife, hid her body

A here has handed down life imprisonment to a man who had killed his wife in 2011 and hidden her body in a bed box.

"Additional Sessions Judge Ramnaresh Maurya held Shardendu Mishra guilty of killing his wife Pragya and hiding her dead body in a bed box in a room. Last week, the awarded life imprisonment under section 302. Under section 201, the also awarded three years' imprisonment. Both sentences will go concurrently," D S R Tripathi, Senior Prosecution Officer said today.


According to the prosecution, Shiv Prasad Dubey had lodged an FIR on July 17, 2011, stating that his daughter Pragya was murdered by her husband Shardendu Mishra.

Pragya was living in a rented house at Sector 11, with her husband.

The couple had several differences and used to quarrel often. Dubey had come to to settle their differences. He further stated that his son-in-killed his daughter and her body was hidden in the room.

Mishra was unemployed at the time and used to take money from his wife.

Pragya had complained to her father about her husband who she said used to beat her.

Her father along with a relative reached on July 17, 2011. The landlord told them that Pragya was found dead in the room and her husband was missing.

Police later arrested Mishra, interrogated him and recovered the murder weapon. His bloodstained clothes were also recovered which he had hidden in bushes.

He confessed to killing Pragya with a lock.

An FIR under sections 302 and 201 was registered against Mishra and in December, 2011 a charge sheet was filed against him. He had denied the charges.
