Fishermen of Nochikuppam have sought the intervention of Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami in a matter pertaining to allotment of recently inaugurated slum board tenements in their area.
K. Bharathi, a resident, said that a total of 536 houses were inaugurated by the Chief Minister and, of these, eight were meant for public use, including a PHC, library and a child care centre.
“We do not want the houses to be allotted on the basis of lottery. Instead, residents want to reside near their former neighbours,” he said.
Residents had met various officials and the Mylapore MLA R. Nataraj too, who has been helping out to resolve the matter. “Some people had complaints about climbing up to the top floor. But we sat and discussed with each family about their issues and now they have arrived at a conclusion. Former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa had promised them ceiling fans and tubelights and I have ensured that all the houses have these,” he explained.
Mr. Bharathi said that a lottery-based allotment would lead to problems between families.
