The controversy over shifting the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) from Bengaluru to Ramanagaram reached Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Wednesday, who held a review meeting on the issue.
The foundation stone for the university’s new campus will be laid in the first week of August at Archakarahalli in Ramanagaram district.
Under litigation
Although a part of the land identified at Archakarahalli is under litigation, the Chief Minister reportedly told university officials that the construction should begin on the land that is not under litigation.
The university has also been asked to pay around ₹580 crore for the construction of buildings, including that for a super-speciality hospital, medical and dental colleges, and a nursing college.
Opposition
The move to shift the university has been opposed by students as well as officials as they feel that lack of adequate transport facility would inconvenience students.
