Terracotta pottery from Gujarat highlight of the two-day exhibition

From the trending cold shoulder tops and long dresses, designer sarees to stylish terracotta pots, kitchenware and handmade ‘rakhis’, ‘The Fair’, a two-day exhibition-cum-sale, being organised by Akhil Bhartiya Marwari Mahila Sammelan at Hotel Palm Beach has a lot to offer. The exhibition was inaugurated by Joint Commissioner of State Tax K. Nagendra here on Wednesday.

The fund raising annual event, this year a part of the proceeds from the sales will go to Netra Vidyalaya, organisation that supports over 100 visually challenged children. “This is the eighth year of the event. There are 25 stalls set up by women entrepreneurs this time. The event is not only a platform to support the entrepreneurship efforts of women but also the Sammelan’s social effort to support an organisation that works for the underprivileged,” said Alka Kumar, executive committee member.

One of the highlights of the exhibition is a stall of terracotta pottery sourced from Gujarat. “Terracotta pottery is making a comeback in a big way in households. We have a collection of serving bowls, terracotta water bottles and cups and saucers among other things. The response has been encouraging,” said Rinkle Mehta, who has set up the stall. With ‘green’ gifting solutions being the latest trends, a stall of bonsai plants in varied shapes and plant species put up by Lalita Ramana offers a wide range of options to get home a little ‘green’ spot.

Meena Goti and Tara Tatya have displayed a marvellous collection of handcrafted gun metal decorative pieces from Odisha and Chattisgarh. For those looking for interesting knick-knacks to pep up your little one’s day, Preeti Agarwal has some cool options ranging from finger puppets to finger paints and other fun stationery items. Sherry Jolly’s stall provides an ethnic range of bed, bath and dining table solutions with towels, table covers, bedsheets, tea coasters and wooden placemats.

The exhibition will be open on Thursday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
