The Scoop Bar has a range of delectable dessert options for those with a sweet tooth

Step in and you’ll be reminded of the wild West. Cowboy hats, quirky doodles and brick interiors welcome you into The Scoop Bar, a newly launched ice cream place in Kilpauk. To live up to the ‘bar’ tag, the staff greets you with a stamp on your hand, a la nightclub.

With their menu of cold stone ice creams, nitrogen desserts, rolled ice creams, sundaes and mug shakes, The Scoop Bar is filled with some novel creations. Choose from chikki ice cream, chilli basil, and lemongrass among others. For me, it was the ice cream roll that piqued my interest.

As the chef skilfully worked his way around the cold stone, I was impressed with the ice cream’s smooth texture and perfect balance of vanilla and gulkhand. With tutti frutti drizzled on top, the ice cream was like a frozen paan. The chikki ice cream, with its sprinkling of peanuts, was a nutty delight as well.

Next, was the tender coconut ice cream proffered on a fancy plate. Fluffy, the thick ice cream was great on the palette and an ideal predecessor to the chilli basil that was to follow. This, I must admit, had me a little apprehensive. But one bite in, and the robust chilli flavour complemented by the freshness of basil, soon had the ice cream soaring right to the top of my list of favourites.

If you enjoy a caffeine kick, the coffee ice cream redolent of filter coffee notes is a good option.

After all that ice cream, I decided to try a mug shake and opted for the strawberry mug shake. This one looked like it had popped right out of my Instagram feed. But, it was a bit of a let down in terms of flavours, which paled in comparison to its predecessors.

While the sundaes looked rather inviting, with flavours such as tiramisu with vanilla sponge cake, I opted to try the nitrogen desserts. Brought with much fanfare with a puff of cold smoke and a generous helping of brownies, choco sticks and Oreos, the ice cream was hard and proved to be a bit of a letdown. Almost anti-climatic.

With its range of desserts, The Scoop Bar is a great place to satisfy your sweet tooth without burning a hole in your pocket.
