The Central government, led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which came to power highlighting development and anti-corruption agenda, is focussing on propagating ‘Manuvaad’ via divisive means further damaging the secular fabric, according to Prakash Ambedkar, grandson of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar.
Addressing a gathering during an awareness campaign on caste discrimination organised by the Left parties here on Tuesday, Mr. Ambedkar said the party members (including the right wing organisations), instead of promoting the principles enshrined in the Constitution, were focussing on reviving the ‘Vedic Hindu religion’.
“While we have been fighting to end the caste discrimination for the past 70 years, the present government is trying to bring the old days back by dividing people in the name of religion, lynching dalits, Muslims in the name of cow/beef and corrupt practices,” he added.
Mr. Ambedkar also alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s trips abroad were not for strengthening the relations between two countries, business deals etc., but were to scout land for construction of temples via NRIs. With respect to the setting up of skill development centres, Mr. Ambedkar said it was one of the ways to force people to follow their caste-based occupations, as according to the order, enhancements would be given to those who follow their intended professions.
“Besides this, the issue of cow and beef is being raised to create fear psychosis among people. Several incidents clearly show that the attacks were well planned and had a motive. If such atrocities occur regularly, there would be a revolt from the oppressed classes. It is nothing but militancy on the rise,” he said.
Mr. Ambedkar further said this version of ‘Manuvaad’ would slowly spread to other religions and communities (Muslims and dalits), moving away from a peaceful society, and hence the need for opposing it.
Mr. Ambedkar stressed on the need for abolishing untouchability being followed at religious places in the form of caste-based priesthood.
