An interstate syndicate selling illegal firearms has been busted and two of its members arrested with 17 pistols, police said on Wednesday.

Hasim, 24, of Kosi Kalan in Mathura in Uttar Pradesh and his accomplice Shakeel, 23, of Haryana's Mewat area were arrested on Tuesday evening following a tip-off when they arrived on National Highway-24 near Indraprastha Park to deliver illegal firearms to their contact.

They were involved in supply of weapons in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and the National Capital Region.

Seventeen semi-automatic pistols of 7.65 mm calibre, engraved with 'Made in Italy' and 'Made in USA' markings, were seized from their possession, Deputy Commissioner of Police P.S. Kushwaha said.

Hasim told police that he got these weapons from a manufacturer in Sendhwa district of Madhya Pradesh.
