Naidu asks CPWD to focus on innovation

Union minister today asked public sector construction major CPWD to focus on innovation and efficient delivery of services to remain relevant.

Addressing an event on the 163rd anniversary of the Central Public Works Department (CPWD), the housing and urban affairs minister reminded it of the challenges ahead and the need for focusing on innovation to retain its primacy.


He asked the organisation to adopt new, energy-efficient building materials and technologies to promote sustainable and environment-friendly habitats in the country at an affordable cost, according to an official statement.

The minister complimented the CPWD for generating 13MW of solar energy through solar panels on buildings across the country.

The CPWD has an employee strength of 27,318.

The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs has commissioned a study to consider various options to improve efficiency of service delivery and manpower utilisation.
