The Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IIT-H) will start an All Course M. Tech. programme from the forthcoming academic session.
The current two-year programme consists of two semesters of course work followed by 14 months of research.
The All Course M. Tech. programme can be completed in three to four semesters.
Many industries find that the strong coursework at the IITs provide the students with the necessary skills that suit the industry requirements. The All Course M. Tech. programme fee will be higher and will be ‘per credit based’.
The All Course M. Tech. programme students will not be entitled for any fellowships as GATE qualification will not be mandatory.
U.B. Desai, Director, IITH, said “The Indian industries need a highly-skilled workforce equipped with latest developments and practices, and this we believe can be achieved through an exhaustive set of courses.
The IITH will be offering an All Course M. Tech. programme with specialisations in Civil, Electrical, and Mechanical Engineering from August 2017.”
He further explained that the All Course programme will not be a shortcut to an IIT degree.
The programme students, besides taking the normal course load, will also have to take extra courses in place of the research work done in the Second Year of the regular two-year M. Tech. programme.
“The course rigour will be the same and will have the depth of IIT courses and breadth for skill and practice,” said Prof. Desai.
On successful completion of the programme, the student will receive an M. Tech. degree. The IITH will accept online applications till July 20 in Civil, Electrical and Mechanical departments.
