Topics such as sexism and homosexuality have been doing the rounds of late in the world of Tennis. Margaret Court’s scathing criticism of same-sex marriage has seen her standing as one of the most respected figures in the sport take a beating while John McEnroe was recently in the spotlight for his comments on Serena Williams.
In the midst of all this, world no. 1 Andy Murray showed that he was not one to tolerate casual sexism in a press conference post his defeat to Sam Querrey in Wimbledon 2017.

Murray coolly reminded the reporter that his vanquisher Sam Querrey is the first American man to reach a Grand Slam semi-final since 2009. It is an important distinction to make as Serena Williams has won 12 Grand Slam titles between 2009 and 2017. Venus Williams may not have won any but she has reached the semi-finals twice and final once in Grand Slam tournaments.
Andy Murray was chasing a third Wimbledon title but he was knocked out after a five setter with Querrey. He will now play Marin Cilic in the semi-final. On the other hand, Roger Federer beat Milos Raonic and will be facing Tomas Berdych. With three of the big-four of Murray, Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal knocked out of the tournament, Federer has emerged as a strong favourite to win a record eighth title at Wimbledon.
