A complaint stating that obscene footage was aired on a TV set that was meant to guide the public on various schemes at the City Municipal Council (CMC) premises in Madikeri has been lodged with cybercrime cell, said CMC BJP and JD(S) members.

The members urged project director Mohammed Muneer to initiate stringent action against erring officials from data operating section.

The TV was installed at CMC hall five months ago. On July 5, three obscene photographs were aired at 3 pm for two minutes. An office staff who noticed it asked the data operating section to switch off the TV. Having noticed it, standing committee president K S Ramesh had informed CMC vice president T S Prakash, who in turn asked CMC commissioner B Shubha to conduct a probe into the incident. As Shubha was on leave, the issue did not get attention, said the members.

The members said that with the media highlighting the incident on Wednesday, Deputy Commissioner Richard Vincent D’Souza has directed Mohammed Muneer to probe into the incident. Following this, the project director has spoken to all the staff and also verified the footages of the CCTV as well.

Vice president Prakash said, “If there was no mistake committed by the official, then what was the need for switching off the TV? The concerned staff should be suspended. A few of the staff at data operating division do not respect the senior citizens. When a file went missing in the CMC in the past, it was found on the table of a data operator.”

CMC members P D Ponnappa, Anitha Poovaiah, Sangeetha Prasanna and Savitha were present.

‘No obscene footage’

Project director Muneer said that no obscene footage was screened. Three photos had suddenly appeared on the screen at 3.07 pm on July 5. A few would have considered it as obsecene footage. “I have directed to submit a complaint to cybercrime cell on how the photos were aired on the TV. A report would be submitted to the deputy commissioner as well,” he said.

“All the CMC staff have been interrogated. All the staff have Wi-Fi passpword. The CMC drivers and members use the Wi-Fi facility. The photos from mobile phone would have aired on the TV, according to a data operator,” he said.
