The Standing Committee for Taxation and Finance of the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) inspected the Bangalore Turf Club on Tuesday over the issue of property tax dues.

Committee chairman M.K. Gunashekar said the club has been asked to clear property tax dues pending since 2008 and which now amount to ₹60 crore. “According to the BBMP’s revenue records, the tax pending is ₹60 crore. The club authorities claim otherwise. We have given them two days to produce documents to substantiate their claims. We will verify the records and decide the next course of action,” Mr. Gunashekar said.

During the inspection, the committee members found an illegal hoarding on the club premises. They directed the club authorities to pay advertisement tax to the BBMP. “We will issue a demand notice for the hoarding on the club’s premises, following which they will have to pay the tax due to the BBMP,” he said.

Y. Jagannath, chairman of the club, maintained that they had paid all taxes till 2016-17.

“We only have to pay property tax for 2017-18. We have sought a day’s time. All documents substantiating our claims will be submitted to the standing committee on Thursday,” he said.
