Demonstrators demanding 'Manav Suraksha Kanoon' detained

Around 100-120 people holding a peaceful demonstration in the national capital to press their demand for a Manav Suraksha Kanoon (Masuka), or a to protect people from mob lynchings, were detained on Wednesday.

The demonstrators, a motley group of lawyers, doctors, civil society activists, journalists and students of the Jamia Millia Islamia, had gathered at Vijay Chowk here.

According to a demonstrator, as soon as they gathered at Vijay Chowk, they were detained by the city police.

"It was a peaceful demonstration, yet police detained us. Two women journalists were also manhandled," said a demonstrator.
