MLA and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader S Suresh Kumar has criticised Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Forest Minister B Ramanath Rai for the government’s “failure” to maintain peace in Dakshina Kannada.
The BJP leader told reporters here on Wednesday that the law and order situation in the state had completely collapsed.
“The murder of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) volunteer Sharath Madiwala is condemnable. Congress is playing vote bank politics in the state. “Siddaramaiah and Rai are protecting their vote bank in Dakshina Kannada. The ministers are using the opportunity to finish off their opponents,” he said.
Suresh Kumar said even after several days of violence, the government had failed to convene a peace meeting and this shows its inefficiency. Siddaramaiah is treating the issue as a leader of a particular party. He should understand that he is the chief minister of the state. The chief minister and Rai should change their attitude.
Suresh Kumar alleged that around 11 RSS workers have been killed in the last three years but the government had failed to arrest the culprits. “Though we have been demanding a ban on organisations like Popular Front of India (PFI), Karnataka Forum for Dignity (KFD) and National Development Front (NDF), the chief minister has dropped the cases against them”, he said.
Kumar said that the state government was humiliating Director General and Inspector General of Police (DG&IGP) Rupak Kumar Dutta by making former IPS officer Kempaiah, also advisor for Home department, to monitor the situation. “Instead, the government could have sent DG&IGP home,” Kumar said.
BJP leader and former police officer Abdul Azeem said that Mangaluru has turned into a hub for criminal activities. As per the police record, BC Road is known for criminal activities but the police failed to take precautionary measures during the funeral procession of Sharath Madiwala. Intelligence failure resulted in the violence, he said.
BJP leaders Dr B H Manjunath, Ravi Kushalappa and others were present.
