Adhir accuses TMC & BJP of trying to finish off Congress

Press Trust of India  |  Kolkata

president Adhir Chowdhury today accused both and of trying to finish off the party at the state and in the Centre for their "own vested political interests".

Chowdhury said communal harmony and secularism of the state and the country is under threat as efforts are being made to rub off the existence of the grand old party of this country.

"is a more than 100 year old party. The ideology, principles of the party comes from the values and ideals of this country, which stands for secularism, unity and brotherhood. So if some one tries to finish off then these values will also be under the threats.

"Presently the same thing is happening in this country and state. The is trying to finish off at the central level, whereas the TMC is trying to finish off the party in Bengal," Chowdhury said while addressing a programme here.

He slammed the state for allowing the riots to take place in Baduria area of North 24 Parganas.

"The state was sitting idle when the riots were taking place in Baduria. Had the state taken appropriate action the situation would not have worsened so much. It is for the people of the area that the matter has settled and everybody is living in harmony," he said.

While speaking on the ongoing turmoil in Darjeeling hills, Chowdhury criticised Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for the ongoing unrest.

"Darjeeling hills are burning only because of Mamata Banerjee and her divide and rule policy. She wanted a political upper hand over GJM in the hills and that is why she used this Bengali language issue to create a turmoil. The unrest in the hills is a man made problem," Chowdhury said.

The situation in Darjeeling remained tensed as the indefinite shutdown in the hills entered its 28th day.

Yesterday all party meeting in Mirik sub-division of Darjeeling district decided to continue with the indefinite shutdown and start a indefinite hunger strike over the demand of separate state of Gorkhaland from July 15.
