More surveyors to be appointed, helpdesks to be set up in tahsildar offices

The Revenue Department is setting up helpdesks in the offices of tahsildars and also planning to appoint surveyors to complete the long pending land survey work, according to K.E. Krishna Murthy, Revenue Minister.

Reviewing the functioning of the department with the officials here on Tuesday, after inaugurating the Revenue Guest House, the Minister said that conversion of land records from manual to online was nearing completion and the portal had the details of 5.13 crore land records belonging to 2.09 crore individuals.

“We are keen on ensuring transparency at every level of administration. After the computerisation of land records, now we are focussing on promulgating a special Act to ensure transparency in registrations. The file is on the President’s table for approval,” he said, adding that the recent session of the Legislative Assembly discussed at length the issues pertaining to land records and registrations. Highlighting the need for the surveyors to improve their style of functioning, he said that the surveyors from the neighbouring States were working smarter and the local personnel need to adopt those techniques. He said that he was aware of the increasing workload on tahsildars and an initiative was taken to fill the posts.
