A special team of entomologists camped in the Lower Kodaikanal hill on Tuesday to detect viral fever and undertake control measures in Pannaikadu town panchayat and nearby villages.

The team inspected Thandigudi, Pannaikadu and nearby villages, checked mosquito density, its multiplication rate and other parameters to assess the situation.

They also checked the quality of water being supplied to people in the villages.

They took up a spot study and conducted research to find the root cause of the fever.

Meanwhile, mobile medical teams toured the rural areas and checked the people to ensure early detection and treatment for viral fever, said health officials.

Viral fever has been haunting Pannaikadu town panchayat and nearby villages on Lower Kodaikanal hill for the past 15 days.

A two-year-old boy, with symptoms of viral fever, was referred to Dindigul Government Hospital on Monday.

Four days ago, Muthu Priya (28) of Uralpatti village near Pannaikadu died of viral fever at a private hospital in Batalgundu.

Already, another team of entomologists from Pollachi was in Palani to control mosquito breeding and its population.
