A major part of the Chennai Silks building has been razed and only a portion of the two floors and the basement remain. It could take another week to pull down the entire building.
“There are two safety lockers inside which need to be removed. This will take a week,” Deputy Commissioner of Police P. Saravanan told The Hindu.
Traffic around the area has been restored to normalcy, except the service lane near the building which remains closed till the completion of the process. The Usman Road flyover, which was barricaded, has now been opened for vehicles. The adjacent Pinjala Subramaniam Street and Venkatesan street have also been opened.
Shops reopened
Most shops in the vicinity have reopened. On Saturday, the front portion of the building came crashing down, but demolition work continued.
