Various organisations across the city are gearing up to celebrate International Yoga Day on Wednesday with a host of events.
Union Minister for Coal and Power Piyush Goyal will be the chief guest for the International Yoga Day Celebrations being conducted by the district administration at Swarna Bharathi Indoor Stadium on Wednesday. The programme will begin at 6 a.m.
Over 1,500 NCC Cadets from Visakhapatnam district will be participating in the International Yoga Day celebrations at 7 a.m. at AU Basketball Ground. Combined Annual Training Camp (CATC-I) of NCC Group HQs headed by Lt. Col. V.S. Srinivas, camp commandant and NCC officer Capt. T. Brahmananda Reddy and his team will coordinate the event. Later, a cultural programme and ‘Barakhana’ will be organised at 12 noon at Harshavardhan hostel, AU.
Prof. G. Nageswara Rao, Vice-Chancellor, AU, will be the chief guest for the programme. Many dignitaries of NCC will also participate.
Department of Yoga and Consciousness, Andhra University, will be conducting valedictory function of Yoga Celebrations at Yoga Village, Beach Road on Wednesday at 4 p.m. AU Vice-Chancellor Prof. G. Nageswara Rao, former Vice-Chancellor Prof. K. Ramakrishna Rao and AU registrar Prof. V. Umamaheswara Rao will take part in the programme. The National Service Scheme (NSS) of GITAM University conducted an awareness rally on yoga on Tuesday on the university campus. The rally was flagged of by Registrar M. Potharaju along with NSS coordinator Swamy, Student Affairs Director K.Veerabhadram, GITAM NCC Women Wing Officer Parimala Venu and Physical Education in-charge Director Ramakrishna Rao. About 280 NSS volunteers, NCC women cadets participated in the event with yoga awareness boards. A large number of students and faculty members are expected to participate in a programme to be organised by the university to mark Yoga Day on Wednesday. Prajapitha Brahma Kumaris Iswariya Viswavidyalayam is conducting a five-day programme from June 21 on Raja Yoga, including all Hata Yogas at all the local Brahma Kumari meditation centres in the city. The timings are: 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
