Jipmer hosts seminar on yoga

The International Yoga Day was celebrated by Advanced Centre for Yoga Therapy, Education and Research (ACYTER), Jipmer, in collaboration with Central Council for Research in Yoga and Naturopathy (CCRYN), Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India, on Wednesday.

In view of this, a national seminar-cum-CME on Yoga was organised at mini auditorium, Jipmer Academic Centre.

Minister of State for External Affairs M.J. Akbar inaugurated the seminar, in the presence of Dr. S.C. Parija, Director, Jipmer.

Mr. Akbar said that yoga is the message for harmony and answer to handle stress which is the biggest self-inflicted wound. “India, through yoga, is connecting the world for peace and harmony. Yoga is becoming popular among the common man after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s nationwide initiatives and programmes,” he added.

Dr. Parija, in his speech, said that Jipmer’s Yoga therapy Centre was concentrating on patient care, academic programmes and research, and also making yoga popular. He said that the centre will be upgraded as ‘Centre of Excellence in Yoga’ soon.

J. Balachander, Medical Superintendent, Jipmer, B. Vishnu Bhat, Dean Research, R.P. Swaminathan, Dean, Academics, G.K. Pal, Dean, Karaikal, were felicitated on the occasion. S. Velkumary, organising secretary, delivered the report on International Yoga Day.
