An 83-year-old man died after he was allegedly attacked by a stray cow at a public park in north-west Delhi’s Azadpur on Tuesday.
The police suspect that Inderpal Dua died of shock as there are no visible injuries on the body.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (north-west) Vijayanta Arya said eyewitnesses saw the man collapse after the cow hit him.
The police added that Mr. Dua, who lived with his family at Kewal Park Extension in Azadpur, had gone to the D-block public park for a walk when a cow entered the park and started attacking people.
The cow first attacked gardener Akhtar Khan, who escaped without injuries. The animal then turned towards Mr. Dua. Eyewitnesses said they saw the cow hit Mr. Dua only once and that the animal didn’t attack him with its horns or hooves, said Ms. Arya.
People nearby rushed to Mr. Dua, while one of them informed the police. The police took the elderly man to a nearby hospital, where he was declared brought dead.
An inquest proceeding has been initiated by the local police but no FIR was registered.
A post-mortem may be conducted if the family demands the same.
