Embracing Data Will Lead To More Opportunity In India
India is growing at a rapid rate and we can accelerate this growth by improving social sectors, education and healthcare.
"IT services in India are one of the best and usage of data can help transform lives of people. 50 crore people in India have access to Internet and is the third largest start-up ecosystem in the world,” said Saurabh Kumar, Additional Private Secretary, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology at the Tata Trusts’, tech4transformation conclave.
The government has been planning various schemes to pass on the direct benefit to the people but all that is impossible to implement on ground without technology. The government is creating a digital India ecosystem to empower the poor. Aadhaar linking with the bank account and sending subsidy direct into the bank account has helped the government save around Rs 50,000 crore and bringing down the corruption.
Kumar added, “The work needs to be done with the private sector because the government can’t do everything alone. We struggled with entitlements like pension but today, with digital direct benefit transfer has been implemented and it has taken down corruption.”
Cancer sample is based on less than 10 percent of India’s population. Data analytics of every patient put together will help in treatment of other patients. The problem is implementation of the solution and patient research will leap frog with the improvement in technology and data collection.
Professor Jagan Shah, Director, National Institute of Urban Affairs said, “There aren’t sufficient appetite among the players for convergence, and without convergence there will be no coherent strategies. We are working on digital India and smart cities program side by side. Geo-tagging is crucial and the information gap should be extracted.”
Prukalpa Sankar, Co-Founder, Social Cops added, ”Data plays an interesting role if we look at we look at the developed landscape. Strategic planning is a key aspect of data and outcome based tracking and monitoring system could be used for effective data management.”
