Tension gripped Nukkanahalli village in Kolar taluk as around 50 people were taken ill due to suspected food poisoning at a wedding reception on Monday night.

Some of the invitees who had dinner and returned home started vomiting and developed symptoms of diarrhoea. They received treatment at a local hospital initially. Later, a team of doctors and other health department staff led by District Health Officer (DHO) S.N. Vijaykumar rushed to the village, set up a camp at the government school, and treated the victims.

Some were treated at Sri Narasimha Raja District Hospital and discharged. “It was a case of mild food poisoning and there is no need to panic”, Dr. Vijaykumar said. The condition of all those suffered illness is stable, he told The Hindu on Tuesday.

An ambulance has been stationed in the village along with the staff. The food sample has been sent to a laboratory for test, Dr. Vijaykumar added.
