Delhi govt launches online job portal

Applicants for Delhi government’s job fairs will now have to register online for a pre-screening before the actual event, with a new portal being launched on Monday.

Labour and Employment Minister Gopal Rai said that the portal will allow applicants to register, and prospective employers to short-list based on the skills required.

Mr. Rai said that firms would also have to register and list the vacancies they have. He added that the applicants that match the requirements of employers would be invited to a job fair organised by the government from July 11 to 15 at Vishwas Nagar. The next round of screening, in-person interviews, would be held at the job fair.

‘More convenient’

Mr. Rai said that with the experience of conducting two jobs fair in the past, where 2,000 and 10,000 applicants respectively ended up getting jobs, the government decided to make the process simpler.

He added that some firms had also suggested having an online application portal, which is available at degs.org.in/jobfair

To invite private companies to register, Mr. Rai said the department would be writing to industry bodies, including FICCI, ASSOCHAM and CII.

“In the last job fair, people were standing in lines for up to three hours. With the online portal, it will become more convenient,” said Mr. Rai.

The Minister added that the government’s employment exchange has about 14 lakh registered job-seekers, but most are ineligible as the data is from 1977 onwards. He said the online portal would enable the Employment Department to reach out to only those who are eligible to attend the job fair.
