Chief Justice to sit in Madurai Bench for first time

Chief Justice of Madras High Court Indira Banerjee will be presiding over the court proceedings in the High Court Bench here for the first time ever since she assumed office in the principal seat of the High Court in Chennai on April 5. She will be sitting in the Madurai Bench from Wednesday to Friday.

According to a notification issued by Additional Registrar General A. Nazeema Banu, there shall be a formal welcome address by Additional Advocate General B. Pugalendhi and the office bearers of all advocates associations in the Bench in court hall number 1 at 10.30 am before the Chief Justice begins court work.

After the welcome, she would sit along with Justice T.S. Sivagnanam to hear writ appeals, writ petitions (except public interest litigation petitions), tax matters, Debt Recovery Tribunal and Debt Recovery Appellate Tribunal matters, contempt petitions and contempt appeals, habeas corpus petitions and so on.

The Division Bench of Justices A. Selvam and N. Authinathan would continue to hear public interest litigation petitions, criminal appeals and other cases as per their portfolio.
