Dismissing the plea for lesser punishment, a sessions court has dismissed an appeal by a man who was sentenced to 18 months in jail in a 2009 accident case.

A Metropolitan Magistrate court in the Patiala House courts had awarded the sentence to Jitender. The convict had appealed against this order in the court of Additional Sessions Judge Rakesh Pandit.

Dismissing the appeal, Additional Sessions Judge Rakesh Pandit said: “I do not find any grounds for leniency”. The prosecution had said that the accused was driving the truck in the middle lane and overtaking other vehicles.

Victim Praveen was riding a motorcycle when the truck hit him from behind. Praveen suffered serious injuries and succumbed to them later. In his defence, Jitender had claimed that Praveen was driving in a rash and negligent manner.
