Anil Kumble stepped down as coach of the Indian cricket team, two days after India lost the final match of the Champions trophy to Pakistan.

In a statement the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced that Kumble refused to continue as coach even as his extension was 'endorsed' by the Cricket Advisory Committee.

Later, Kumble released a statement on social media where he pretty much confirmed speculations that he has quit following a feud with Virat Kohli.

"I was informed for the first time yesterday that the Captain had reservations with my 'style' and about my continuing as Head Coach. I was surprised because I had always respected the role boundaries between Captain and Coach. Though the BCCI attempted to resolve the misunderstandings between the Captain and me, it was apparent that the partnership was untenable..." he said in the statement he shared on Twitter.

"I see the Coach's role akin to 'holding a mirror' to drive self-improvement in the team's interest," he added.

BCCI's statement had said: ""While the Cricket Advisory Committee had endorsed an extension to his tenure as Head Coach, Anil Kumble has decided not to continue as the coach."
