Rescue operations on; transport partially hit in Assam

Heavy rain affected life in Northeast India on Monday too, with the floods taking more lives. National Disaster Response Force personnel are continuing rescue operations.

In Meghalaya, with the death of one more person on Sunday, the death toll in landslips rose to five. In Mizoram, 12 persons were confirmed dead and over 850 houses damaged.

In Assam, two more persons were swept away on Sunday.

Over 69,000 people in five districts have been affected by the flood.

The government has opened 10 relief camps with at least 4,000 people taking shelter.

Transport of essential goods throughout the Northeast is partially hampered by the worsening floods in Assam.

Rivers breach banks

Some areas in Manipur were inundated as rivers breached their banks.

Tributaries of the Brahmaputra were running above the danger mark.

In Manipur, at least one body was fished out of the river on Sunday. There were reports of minor landslips in the hilly highways in the region.

Geological Survey of India officials are not ruling out more cracks endangering the villagers in Manipur.
